Centrifical Growth
by: Jimmy C. Broadhead, Jr.
At birth we are marvels.
Spectacular to the world that sees us through their eyes
Hearing our small whimpers and aiding them.
They come to our every need.
At the age of two we have learned to walk and to talk.
Spectacular to the world that sees us through their eyes
Hearing our small voices and watching us play gleefully.
Worry is a quality unknown to us at this time.
Our every need is met.
By the age of five we are taught just the opposite of what we learned
To shut up and sit down.
To submit to the world that becons to us.
Spectacular to the world that sees through their eyes
Hearing our loud cries of joy and rapture as we begin our educational process.
Qualities of unknown capacities begin to unveil and make anew to us.
Our needs are full-filled.
As we age we grow stronger with friendship.
We learn at an uncompassed rate.
What takes an older man two years to learn we manage within two months.
Spectacular to the world that sees us through their eyes
Hearing us speak illogical logic
As if we really knew what it was we were speaking.
Worry is now aware and the disease of young adulthood sets in.
Our needs are met but not appreciated by ourselves.
We enter the term of a socially challenging erra known as High School.
We experience a great many things
Things never known of by our "perfect teen-age know it all" minds.
Horrid to the world that sees us through their eyes
Hearing us speak things that they wish not hear even though it was they
Who were speaking these things but a few years before.
We seek knowledge, and we glamorate upon it.
We seek acceptance, and we exasporate its yearn.
We seek love, and hold tight not its moral obligations to knowledge.
Our needs are found but left for us to decide upon.
And now here we sit before you
Knowledge, acceptance, love
And everything that you our parents, teachers, and religious leaders
Have brought us up into.
To know what is right
And to use this knowledge to decide our paths.
Some of us shall go forth and make production
Some of us shall go forth and make an oblivious chain of undecidedness
But fear not, we shall go forth
For our needs have been met
And we appear here before you the product of years of hard work
And are prepared to meet the needs of our lives.
NOTE: This was a speech I gave at my graduation, rather interesting thing to hear as a graduation speech eh?
